The constellation in the sky
Low in the south.
Antares is an orange-red star and one of the brightest in the night sky. Right next to it lies the globular cluster M4, best seen in July.
In our latitudes Scorpius does not rise very high above the horizon.

The path of the sun
Twelve sections of a year.
Scorpio is the eighth of the twelve sections.
Seen from the Earth, the sun travels once around the sky against the stars over the course of a year, along the ecliptic.
The signs divide this path into twelve equal sections of 30 degrees each, counted from the vernal equinox point, the position of the sun at the start of spring. The constellations of the same names differ in size.
Because the Earth’s axis slowly turns like a spinning top, once in about 26,000 years, the vernal equinox point has moved by about 30 degrees since the Greek Hipparchus. Signs and constellations are therefore offset today by about one constellation.
For more than 2,500 years
In cuneiform, in books, on clocks.
- BabylonThe cuneiform series MUL.APIN, preserved in copies from the 7th century BC onwards, names 17 constellations along the ecliptic.
- PtolemyAround AD 150, Ptolemy gathered more than a thousand stars into 48 constellations in the Almagest. At its core, our system today is his.
- Très Riches HeuresIn the book of hours of the Duke of Berry, now in Chantilly, each month’s picture shows the two zodiac signs of the month at the top.
- PragueThe astronomical clock has stood on the Old Town Hall since 1410, today with calendar, zodiac and clock.

1 oz Copper Zodiac Scorpio 2026 – Strength & Transformation in Proof
Minting quality: The highest possible finish in Proof – mirrored fields, finely matted relief.
Strictly limited: Very low mintage of only 1,000 pieces worldwide.
Growth potential: The strict limitation meets the large fan base of zodiac sign designs – opening up value appreciation potential.
Rare collector's coin: A genuine rarity in the copper segment, as certified four-digit mintages are the exception here.
Design: A sculpturally raised scorpion above baroque, sweeping surf, behind it a glittering starfield and the astrological Scorpio symbol.
Genuine coin: Face value of 1 dollar, issued for the Republic of Liberia – not a round, not a medal.
Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle (issuer).
Certificate: Delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
Some coins simply need to be held in the hand. The 1 oz Copper Zodiac Scorpio 2026 is one of them: 40 millimeters in diameter, a rich reddish-gold glow, and relief with genuine depth. As a collector's coin, its positioning is clear – design, minting artistry and limitation take center stage. This is precisely what makes copper coins so appealing to collectors.
The design: Scorpio between starry sky and surf
The obverse shows a scorpion with its stinger raised high and pincers extended. Every segment of its armor is individually rendered, the legs appear tensed. Below, ornamentally sweeping waves crash, while to the left and right the stars of a delicate starfield glitter. At the bottom center sits the astrological symbol of Scorpio within a small circle. Around the edge reads: "Scorpio • Strength & Transformation • The stars point the way, but fate lies in your hands".
"Twelve Signs – Four Elements – One Universe" – thus the reverse encircles its center of sun and moon.
The reverse: cosmic order in four quadrants
The reverse divides the surface into four fields for water, fire, earth and air: raging waves, blazing flames, rugged mountain ranges, drifting clouds. At the center, sun and moon merge into a double face. The twelve zodiac signs frame the image around the outside. Also featured are the inscriptions "One Dollar", "Republic of Liberia" and "1 oz 999 Fine Copper" – face value, issuing country, weight and fineness all within the round.
Proof: the most demanding minting quality
For Proof quality, dies and blanks are elaborately polished, and each piece is struck multiple times. The result: deeply mirrored background surfaces from which the matted relief areas stand out three-dimensionally. This level of effort is rare for copper – the vast majority of one-ounce copper pieces appear only in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality. Please handle only by the edge and keep in the capsule; copper reacts more strongly to humidity and skin oils than gold or silver.
Only 1,000 pieces: a rarity with collector appeal
Only 1,000 examples of this edition exist worldwide. Measured against typical copper mintages, this is an extraordinarily very low mintage. Where supply is this scarce and twelve zodiac signs appeal to twelve different groups of collectors, collector pressure builds – anyone aiming to complete the full series needs exactly this piece. This is the source of the value appreciation potential of strictly limited coins.
Collecting copper: red metal, great design diversity
Design freedom: Copper coins offer one of the most diverse ranges of designs of all – from classic Indian motifs to animal designs and thematic series such as the zodiac signs.
US tradition: In the USA, numerous copper rounds – that is, private copper medallions – are minted with a wide variety of designs.
A hands-on entry point: Weight, sound, relief, capsule handling – copper coins and copper bars teach you all of this just as well as more expensive metals do.
Collector audience: Most copper buyers are classic collectors who enjoy building their own collection.
Compatible format: At 40.00 mm, this coin fits into the same capsules, trays and albums as many one-ounce silver coins.
What sets this edition apart from classic copper rounds
Three points stand out. First, the face value: most one-ounce copper pieces on the market are medals without a denomination, whereas this coin bears "One Dollar" and the name of the Republic of Liberia. Second, the weight – instead of the avoirdupois ounce (28.35 g) common in rounds, it contains a full troy ounce with a fine weight of 31.10 g and a gross weight of 31.13 g. Third, the mintage: with standard copper coins, the number of pieces is often unknown or very high, whereas here it is precisely stated at only 1,000 pieces and certified. Anyone collecting the series in parallel in silver or gold also gets the largest image area with the copper counterpart – 40 mm gives the scorpion noticeably more space than a small gold planchet.

Scorpio rules from October 24 to November 22 – a sign to which astrology attributes strength of will and the capacity for transformation. As a gift for someone born under Scorpio, a minted copper ounce in Proof quality feels far more personal than any card. And as a building block of a growing collection, it is a piece you won't be offered a second time so soon.
