From the rock

We know the megalodon almost only from its teeth.

Its skeleton was made of cartilage, which hardly fossilises. Its teeth reach up to 18 centimetres.

No human has ever seen this animal alive: it died out 3.6 million years ago at the latest, and the human genus has existed for about 2.8 million years.

This edition joins the sought-after gold coins of the successful African Prehistoric Life II series. At its core, you are acquiring physical gold: the value of this coin is based primarily on its fine gold content and moves in line with the gold price. The impressive design is the personal touch, but the substance is minted precious metal – and that is the real reason to buy.

The design: the Megalodon as ruler of the ancient seas

The obverse depicts the Megalodon, the largest predatory fish in Earth's history. With its jaws wide open and its characteristic teeth arranged in multiple rows, it lunges at a whale – the prey already disappearing into its mouth. Finely chiseled shark skin, a carefully rendered underwater setting, and skillfully placed light and shadow edges give the tiny 11 mm surface an astonishing sense of depth. The inscription reads "MEGALODON," its lifespan "10.3–2.6 MIO YEARS BC," and the year of issue 2025. The reverse bears the national coat of arms with a leopard's head, crossed spear, and elephant tusk, surrounded by the legend "RÉPUBLIQUE DÉMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO" together with the motto "JUSTICE – PAIX – TRAVAIL" and the specification "0.5 g Au 999.9."

Investment gold in miniature format

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlasted every paper currency. It has intrinsic value, has never been worthless, and is recognized worldwide as a means of payment and exchange. With this 0.5 g coin, you can collect fine gold in small, affordable steps – piece by piece building a real asset.

  • Value preservation: physical gold is a proven store of value over millennia.
  • Tradability: liquid worldwide and can be resold at any time.
  • Wealth building: ideal for building up genuine fine gold holdings step by step.
  • Tax advantage: profits from resale are generally tax-free after a holding period of one year.

It is precisely the very low mintage of only 2,000 pieces that makes this coin so appealing: scarcity meets a striking design and the enduring appeal of fine gold. The combination of limitation, high-quality Proof finish, and stable precious metal value underscores the value appreciation potential of this rarity. Anyone following the series across multiple editions is also building up a tangible fine gold holding along the way.

Give the gift of a gold investment

Whether for a christening, a birthday, or Christmas: with this edition, you're not giving a mere gift, but genuine investment gold. Despite the personal occasion, the recipient receives full-value fine gold whose worth is tied to the gold price – an investment that endures over the years and can be passed down from generation to generation.

Small amounts of gold add up over the years into a substantial fortune – solid, tangible, and sought after worldwide.
