The animal
The sardines do not dodge the sailfish’s spear.
It pushes it into the school without the fish moving away. Then it taps individual fish or slashes through the school with powerful sideways strikes.

It is the sprinter of the world's oceans. And this coin shows it. With "Born for Speed", a new series begins, dedicated to the fastest animals on our planet – on land, in water and in the air. The series kicks off with the sailfish, known internationally as the Sailfish. Anyone looking for an extraordinary collector's coin that combines dynamism, craftsmanship and genuine rarity will find a piece here that immediately catches the eye. With a mintage of just 999 pieces worldwide, this issue is a sought-after rarity among modern silver coins.
An arrow of silver and spray: the design
On the obverse, the sailfish shoots upward in an elegant S-curve from a foaming wave. Its enormous, fan-shaped dorsal fin glows in intense blue. This is the hallmark of the species, which is also known as the fan fish. The sword-like mouth points, like a speedometer needle, to a speed scale that spans the upper edge of the coin. A clever detail! The sailfish is considered one of the fastest fish in the world, reaching speeds of around 110 km/h, and it is exactly in this range that the needle comes to rest. To the right stands the confident lettering "BORN FOR SPEED".
The Ultra High Relief, created using smartminting® technology, gives the animal tremendous depth. Combined with a concave water surface, polished areas and finely graduated colouring, the interplay of light, water and movement becomes almost tangible. You can almost hear the spray.
Power, elegance and pure speed – captured in one troy ounce of fine silver.
The sailfish: hunter of the high seas
In nature, the sailfish is just as spectacular as it is on the silver coin. Fully grown specimens can reach over three metres in length and weigh around 100 kilograms. These large predatory fish hunt in groups for smaller fish, crustaceans and squid. Their striking appearance has long made them the dream catch of many deep-sea anglers. This coin therefore celebrates the sailfish as a symbol of the power and freedom of the open ocean – an ideal design for any collection featuring marine life.
The value side: King Charles III
The reverse features a profile portrait of King Charles III, framed by the inscriptions "5 DOLLARS", "CHARLES III" and "COOK ISLANDS" as well as the year 2027. This makes the new issue official legal tender of the Cook Islands. Anyone collecting silver coins from this island nation knows how to appreciate the quality: the Cook Islands are renowned as an issuing country for creative designs, elaborate finishing and numerous award-winning themed coins in modern numismatics.
Masterful minting craftsmanship from Bavaria
The silver coin is minted at B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt in Karlsfeld, Bavaria. Together with the Liechtenstein-based coin specialist CIT Coin Invest, this traditional mint developed the smartminting® technology, which enables unusually high reliefs combined with the finest level of detail. The Proof finish brings mirrored surfaces together with matte details, and this contrast makes every scale stand out. The coin is delivered in a case whose frame embeds it in a dramatic wave panorama, so it is perfectly showcased even in a display cabinet.

Why collectors should act fast on this rarity
Classic bullion coins such as the Maple Leaf or the Vienna Philharmonic in silver are issued every year in the millions. Their strength lies in the low premium over the pure metal value. The Born for Speed Sailfish plays in a different league. Here, it's not just about the silver. What matters most is the very low mintage, the artistic execution and the status as the first issue of a new series. That's why the price is noticeably above the material value. Yet it is precisely this combination that explains the high appreciation potential that collectors value in such issues. Due to the strict limitation, supply remains permanently scarce, and with each further issue in the series, new collectors join in. First issues, in particular, tend to be especially sought after.
Silver – a metal with tradition and a future
Silver has accompanied humanity for thousands of years. It served as coinage and a medium of trade, and in many cultures it was regarded as a symbol of prosperity. Because it is durable and retains its physical properties over generations, it is excellently suited for passing on value to children and grandchildren. At the same time, silver is a globally traded commodity with high liquidity. Electronics, solar and medical technology ensure steady industrial demand, while supply remains limited. Silver is also more affordable than gold, which is one reason for its great popularity among private collectors. There is also a tax advantage: under current German law, profits from the sale of silver are tax-free if at least one year has passed between purchase and sale.
Whether as the centrepiece of a marine life collection, as a gift for anglers and ocean enthusiasts, or as the start of a new series: this limited collector's coin is a piece you won't easily find on offer again. After all, there are only 999 pieces in the entire world.
