From the rock
Many of its skin impressions have been found.
That is how we know that scales covered large parts of its body. Its name means meat-eating bull.
No human has ever seen this animal alive: the age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago, and the human genus has existed for about 2.8 million years.

The 0.5 g gold coin Prehistoric Life Carnotaurus 2025 is the fourth issue of the popular Prehistoric Life II series and combines two strengths in a tiny format: highly pure gold as the actual substance and a fascinating design as a personal touch. With a very low mintage, it joins a family of sought-after collector's coins, whose Congo issues – such as the Velociraptor or the Megalodon – have long since found their followers.
The design: a hunting scene from the late Cretaceous period
The richly detailed minting shows two Carnotaurus specimens hunting four smaller dinosaurs through a rocky prehistoric landscape. The open jaws, the characteristic small forearms, and the two forehead horns of the "flesh-eating bull" are impressively brought out thanks to the Proof finish. Above the scene are the inscriptions "PREHISTORIC LIFE", "CARNOTAURUS", "72 – 69.9 MIO YEARS BC" as well as the year of issue 2025. The reverse bears the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo along with weight, fineness, and face value. The coin is delivered protected in a coin capsule.
Why this edition is so sought after
The limitation to only 2,000 pieces makes this edition a true rarity. Small mintages and an elaborate design meet here with a series that has a loyal following – a combination that underscores the potential for value appreciation of this collector's coin. Those who already own other issues will complete another chapter of the series with the Carnotaurus.
Small coin, genuine investment gold
As appealing as the design is – at its core, you are acquiring full-fledged investment gold. The value of these gold coins is based primarily on the fine gold content and develops in line with the gold price. Gold is the oldest currency in the world, a proven store of value for over 6,000 years with intrinsic value, tradable worldwide, and always resalable. With small units like this one, you build up physical wealth in manageable steps – over the years, many small quantities of gold add up to a considerable holding. And even as a personal gift, the following applies: you are not giving away a mere keepsake, but minted fine gold with genuine investment character.
