From the rock

Its forearm bears the bumps where feather quills were anchored.

In many birds today, such bumps hold the quills of the flight feathers. They were described in 2007 on a bone from Mongolia.

No human has ever seen this animal alive: the age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago, and the human genus has existed for about 2.8 million years.

  • Manufacturer: minted by the Bavarian Main Mint
  • Country of origin: Germany

With the 0.5 g Gold Velociraptor 2025, the popular „Prehistoric Life II“ series reaches its sixth issue. This collector's coin combines a vividly designed motif with a clear material value in pure fine gold. What matters most, however, is the number behind it: with a worldwide mintage of only 2,000 pieces, this issue ranks among the strictly limited mintings of the series – a true rarity, minted by the renowned Bavarian Main Mint in Germany.

A Predatory Dinosaur in the Smallest of Spaces – The Design in Detail

On a diameter of just 11.0 mm, the Bavarian Main Mint stages a complete prehistoric scene. A Velociraptor Mongoliensis chases a small prey animal, while a second predator lurks in front of a rugged mountain range. The fine relief, which seems to come to life in the mirror-like shine of the Proof finish, is what makes this coin so appealing. The inscription on the obverse reads „Velociraptor Mongoliensis 75–71 Mio Years BC“ along with the year of issue 2025. The reverse bears the national coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo featuring a leopard's head, together with the motto „Justice – Travail – Paix“, the face value of 100 Francs, and the designation 0.5 g Au 999.9. The reeded edge rounds off the high-quality appearance. Those familiar with the series know that other designs are also available as 1-ounce silver coins and in further formats – but the small gold issue is especially sought after due to its limited mintage.

Why Fine Gold Is What Really Matters Here

As striking as the design may be, the actual reason for purchase is just as clear: you are acquiring fully-fledged investment gold. The value of this coin is based primarily on its fine gold content and moves in line with the gold price. Gold is the world's oldest currency and has served as a proven store of value for over 6,000 years – a precious metal with intrinsic value that is recognized worldwide, tradable at any time, and easy to resell. The design is the personal touch; the fine gold is the substance.

  • Value preservation: minted fine gold, the value of which is based on the gold price
  • Building wealth in small steps: small amounts of gold accumulate over the years into a considerable fortune
  • High liquidity: can be converted back into cash easily at any time
  • Tax advantage: investment gold is traded VAT-free; after a minimum holding period of one year, capital gains are generally tax-free
Despite the fascinating Velociraptor design, what you are acquiring here is not a mere souvenir, but recognized investment gold – minted fine gold 999.9 in Proof quality.

This small gold issue is also a wonderful way to give a gift of genuine investment gold – for example, for a christening, birthday, or Christmas. What is given here is not a perishable item, but a lasting store of value. Those who appreciate other gold coins with limited mintages will find this issue from the „Prehistoric Life II“ series to be an equally appealing and substantial addition.
