  • Design: A dynamically roaring Tyrannosaurus Rex set against a prehistoric mountain landscape, surrounded by other dinosaurs.

With this coin, you secure genuine investment gold in miniature format: The Tyrannosaurus Rex launched the popular "Prehistoric Life" series in 2020 and remains one of the most coveted designs in the entire range to this day. Anyone investing in physical gold acquires here a fascinating piece of prehistory – whose actual substance, however, is the fine gold it contains. The design provides the personal touch, while the fine gold core is the tangible reason to buy.

The design: The king of the dinosaurs

The obverse of this coin shows a powerfully upright T-Rex with its jaws wide open and teeth bared. The inscription "PREHISTORIC LIFE" frames the depiction, below which are the year of issue 2020 and "TYRANNOSAURUS REX 68-66 MIO YEARS BC". In the background, mountains, trees and further dinosaurs stretch out – a vivid image from the late Cretaceous period, when this predator, up to 13 metres long, dominated the landscape. The reverse bears the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the face value of 100 francs, along with the embossed details "0.5 g Au 999.9". The reeded edge rounds off the high-quality appearance.

Proof minting quality

This issue is struck in the most exquisite of all minting techniques: Proof. In this elaborate PP quality, the smooth surfaces reflect like a mirror, while the raised design elements stand out with a matte finish. This contrast lends the roaring dinosaur an impressive depth – a level of detail achievable only in small, carefully minted quantities, further underscoring the coin's value.

Fine gold as substance

The centrepiece of this gold coin issue is its fine gold content of 999.9. With a diameter of just 11.00 mm, it packs 0.5 grams of pure gold and is delivered in a coin capsule for protection. Gold is the oldest currency in the world, a proven store of value for over 6,000 years, and thanks to its intrinsic value, it has never been worth zero. This is precisely the sober core of this investment: the value of the coin is based primarily on the fine gold it contains and moves in line with the gold price. Furthermore, profits from the private sale of gold are generally tax-free, provided the holding period is at least one year.

Rarity with appreciation potential

With a very low mintage of only 2,000 pieces worldwide, this first issue is a sought-after collector's coin and a genuine rarity. The strictly limited quantity meets a loyal, ever-growing worldwide fan community for prehistoric designs – a combination that noticeably increases the appreciation potential. As the first design in the series, the T-Rex holds a special place within "Prehistoric Life".

Despite the fascinating design, what you acquire here is fully-fledged investment gold – minted fine gold whose value is based on the gold price.

This way, you combine the personal appeal of a dinosaur design with the tangible benefit of a physical gold investment. Small denominations in particular are ideally suited to building wealth step by step: small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable value, and physical gold remains tradeable worldwide and easy to resell at any time. As a genuine gold investment for a christening, birthday or Christmas, this coin is also a thoughtful choice – rather than a fleeting item, what is given is a lasting asset made of pure fine gold.
