Germanic Legends Collection, all twelve pieces

Two coins, five strikes and five bars, nine of them in silver and three in gold.

The names in our week

Three names we say every week.

Thursday, Friday and Wednesday still carry names from this world of gods. In German, Donnerstag and Freitag do too, formed on the model of the Roman week, but Mittwoch has lost its old name.

Merseburg · 10th century

Two charms, not found until 1841.

In the 10th century, two charms were written in an Old High German dialect on the front of a leaf. The manuscript is held in the cathedral chapter library in Merseburg.

In 1841 the historian Georg Waitz found the lines in the library of the cathedral chapter, and the following year Jacob Grimm called the manuscript a “treasure”.

According to the cathedral chapter, they are the only pagan incantations preserved in Germany and the only known Old High German record that shows figures of this world of gods in action: Wodan, Balder, Friia, Volla, Sunna, Phol and Sinhtgunt.

“Phol ende Uuodan uuorun zi holza.” Phol and Wodan made their way into the wood.
Second Merseburg Charm, translation after Eichner and Nedoma

Iceland · around 1220

A textbook for young poets.

Around 1220 the Icelander Snorri Sturluson, 1179 to 1241, wrote his Edda. According to Britannica, it was meant to teach young poets the difficult metres and to make the old material understandable to a Christian age.

Codex Regius · 45 leaves

A book on which the poems depend.

A parchment book from the late 13th century, its scribe unknown. According to the Árni Magnússon Institute, it is the oldest and most important surviving collection of Eddic poems, and most of the poems exist nowhere else but here and in copies of it.

At the front stand the poems about the gods, headed by the Völuspá. Nothing is known of the book’s path until 1643, when Bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson wrote his initials and the year into it; eight leaves were already missing.

In 1662 the bishop sent the book to King Frederick III in Copenhagen. It stayed there for more than three centuries.

Reykjavík · 21 April 1971

On 21 April 1971 the Danish naval ship “Vædderen” docked in Reykjavík. The harbour was crowded as naval officers carried ashore three parcels in brown paper, with the Codex Regius and the Flateyjarbók inside.

The books are back in Iceland and are kept in Reykjavík today. We say the names every week.

“Has the whole population ever gathered with enthusiasm to receive two books?”
Prime Minister Jóhann Hafstein on 21 April 1971, as quoted in Kristeligt Dagblad

Asgard's Call – Twelve Ounces of Germanic Legend, Bundled in One Collection

Some collections grow over years. This one arrives in a single delivery. Twelve individually curated precious metal strikes from the Fabelwesen (Mythical Creatures) series lead you through the myths, sagas and legends of the Germanic and Norse cultural sphere – from Odin and Frigg to Thor and Loki to the goddesses of fate at the root of the World Tree. Together, the collection tips the scales at 374 g gross weight: around 373.2 g fine silver, which equals exactly twelve ounces, plus 0.782 g fine gold across three separate strikes.

The Heavyweight: Savage Vikings in Three Ounces

The centrepiece of the collection is the 3-ounce "Savage Vikings" edition from the Cook Islands – the sixth and, at the same time, final release in the "Legends" series. It depicts Ragnar Lodbrok together with his sons Ivar the Boneless and Björn Ironside, with the halls of Valhalla in the background. Smartminting technology drives the relief to a height you can feel with your fingertips; the helmet and sword hilt of the middle warrior are finely gilded. 93.3 g fine silver, 45 mm diameter, Proof. Only 500 examples of this silver coin exist worldwide.

Beasts, Goddesses of Fate, and Rune Stones

Gullinbursti, the golden-bristled boar from the Edda, was forged by the dwarves Sindri and Brokkr and served the Vanir god Freyr as a mount. The Germania Mint captured him in 2025 in Ultra Double High Relief on two ounces of fine silver, mintage 999, with striking partial gilding. His counterpart is Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged steed, which continues the Germania Beasts series in 2026. Urd and Werdanda, in turn, embody two of the three Norns – the goddesses of fate who spin the threads of life at the well beneath Yggdrasil. Urd represents what has become, Werdanda what is becoming. Added to these are two cast bars from the Runes Collection in stone form: Berkanan, the birch rune of growth and new beginnings, and Mannaz, the rune of man. Both feature an Antique Finish and are limited to 2,500 pieces each. The Loki bar, finally, comes from the "Nordic Gods" series by the British Royal Mint and depicts the cunning shapeshifter amid flames and serpents.

Three Gold Strikes in Miniature Format

Gold is deliberately used sparingly in this collection. The two 1/100-ounce bars from the "Gods of Germania" series depict Odin with his spear and Frigg as the mother of the gods, each in 999.9 fine gold and Proof quality. Added to these is the 1/200 oz Gold Thor's Hammer Mjölnir 2026, an exclusive strike from Kettner Edelmetalle: 999.9/1,000 fine gold, 14.00 mm diameter, reeded edge, face value 25 Dollars of the Republic of Liberia – strictly limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide.

Condition: Consistently New Stock in First-Class Quality

Every piece in this collection is brand new. Historically circulated items are not included; detailed notes on the respective condition can be found with the individual items in our shop. The range of minting qualities spans from Proof to Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) to the deliberately aged Antique Finish of the rune bars. Be sure to keep capsules, blisters and cases – they protect the sensitive mirror surfaces of the Proof editions from scratches and fingerprints.

Why This Collection Is Worth It

  • A cohesive theme: All designs tell stories from a single cultural sphere – this significantly increases collectability compared to arbitrarily assembled lots.
  • Strict limitations: 500, 999, 1,000 and 2,500 pieces are mintage figures that attract attention on the collectors' market.
  • Two precious metals: Silver provides the substance, gold concentrates value into the smallest of spaces.
  • Inflation hedge: Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlasted every paper currency.
  • Insured value shipping and delivery as brand-new stock.

Anyone assembling individual silver coins on Norse mythology has to track down, verify and order each edition separately – often in vain given mintages of 500 or 999 pieces. This bundle takes that work off your hands. Compared to a pure bullion stack of twelve uniform ounce coins, the premium over pure material value is naturally higher here; in return, you receive designs, relief techniques and limitations that a standard bar could never offer. Conversely: anyone who wants to stack weight alone will do better with classic bullion coins. Both approaches have their merits – many customers simply combine the two.

Asgard's Call combines narrative depth with genuine substance: twelve ounces of fine silver, three gold strikes, and a theme that has lost none of its fascination in over a thousand years.

For collectors of Norse myths and legends, this collection is a solid foundation. For investors who want to combine value preservation with enjoyment of the object, it is an entry point with character – and a gift that tells a story while holding genuine precious metal value.
