Deutscher Adler 2026

100 coins.Turn one over, and you read a song.

The eagle side bears EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT (unity and justice and freedom), the Germania side FÜR DAS DEUTSCHE VATERLAND (for the German fatherland). Together they are the first two lines of the German national anthem.

Eagle side: an eagle in flight against rays, around it EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT, the weight and the fineness
Germania side: Germania with helmet, spear and oak leaves against rays, around it FÜR DAS DEUTSCHE VATERLAND and 2026

Eagle side: an eagle in flight against rays, around it EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT, the weight and the fineness

Heligoland, 26 August 1841

“Nothing but sky and sea”

In 1841, Germany was divided into almost 40 separate states. On Heligoland, then British, August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben walked alone on the cliff and wrote the “Song of the Germans”.

For the melody he chose Joseph Haydn’s 1797 setting of “Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser” (God save Emperor Francis). Instead of God and emperor, the song was now about a united, free Germany.

He offered the song to his publisher Julius Campe for four louis d’or, that is, for four gold coins. Campe paid before it had even been recited to the end.

Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit

für das deutsche Vaterland!

Hoffmann von Fallersleben, “Song of the Germans”, third verse: “Unity and justice and freedom for the German fatherland!”

In 1952 Federal President Theodor Heuss and Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer agreed that the third verse would be sung on official occasions. Of the poet, Heuss wrote: “Hoffmann von Fallersleben was a man of black, red and gold.”

In 1991, after reunification, Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker declared the third verse the national anthem in an exchange of letters with Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl. Kohl called “Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit” a “triad”.

The same words appear on the edge of the German 2 euro coin.

Colours for unity and freedom

Where black, red and gold come from is not clearly documented. After 1815 they were traced back to the black uniforms with red piping and gold-coloured buttons of the Lützow Free Corps of 1813.

  1. 1832Hambach

Between 20,000 and 30,000 people came to the Hambach Festival, the largest political gathering in Germany up to that time. In the procession, a black, red and gold flag was carried, bearing the words “Deutschlands Wiedergeburt” (Germany’s rebirth).

  2. 1848Frankfurt

On 9 March the Federal Diet of the German Confederation in Frankfurt made black, red and gold the colours of the Confederation.

  3. 1949Basic Law

With one vote against, the Parliamentary Council chose the colours of the movement for unity and freedom. Article 22 of the Basic Law: “The federal flag shall be black, red and gold.”

The Germania side

Germania with helmet, spear and oak leaves

The eagle on the helmet, the tip of the spear

In 1848, a Germania almost five metres high, attributed to Philipp Veit and his workshop, hung above the speaker’s rostrum of the first German National Assembly in St Paul’s Church in Frankfurt.

She wears a wreath of oak leaves and holds a lance with the black, red and gold banner, while the sun rises behind her. Today the painting is in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg.

The oak leaves, spear and rays on the coin recall this painting.

The 1 DM coin also bore two oak leaves, and today an oak twig appears on the German 1, 2 and 5 cent coins.

The eagle side

The eagle in flight

The head with its curved beak, a detail from the product image

It spreads its wings wide and stretches its talons forward, while rays run out behind it from the centre of the coin. The plumage is worked down to each individual feather.

As a heraldic animal, the eagle goes back to the beginnings of the Holy Roman Empire; since 1950 the federal coat of arms has shown it in black on a golden-yellow ground. The eagle on this coin is freely designed, in flight rather than within a shield.

The coin in detail

Blue velvet pouch with stacks of silver coins and a single Deutscher Adler in front of it

100 coins of 1/20 ounce each

The bundle comes with two blue velvet pouches.

Kettner Edelmetalle describes the Deutscher Adler as a privately minted series with a foreign face value.

With its words in reverse order, the formula PERPETUA SECURITAS already appeared on Roman coins.

“For a country open to the world and widely respected.”

That is what black, red and gold stand for today, according to the Bundestag.

When an eagle spreads its wings, something magical happens: freedom, strength and pride condense onto a few square millimeters of pure fine silver. The bundle 100 x 1/20 oz Silver German Eagle 2026 brings this very symbolic power to your hands a hundred times over – freshly minted, in gleaming Brilliant Uncirculated quality and with an impressive fineness of 999.9/1,000. A Design with Impact: The Eagle in a Halo of Rays

The obverse shows a majestically ascending eagle – every feather finely chiseled, its outstretched wings set against a radiant background reminiscent of a powerful sunrise. The design is framed by the striking inscription "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("Unity and Justice and Freedom") as well as the note 1/20 ounce fine silver 9999. On the value side, Germania herself gazes powerfully into the distance, holding a spear, wearing an oak leaf wreath, and an eagle atop her helmet. Above her is emblazoned the inscription "Für das deutsche Vaterland" ("For the German Fatherland"), and below it the year of issue 2026.

A design that doesn't just leave an impression, but endures: the German Eagle 2026 combines centuries-old symbolism with the most modern minting artistry.

Why 1/20 oz in Particular? The Clever Small Denomination

While many investors reach for large bars, the 1/20-ounce denomination has its own, almost strategic charm. It's small, handy, divisible – and thus a real trump card in times of crisis. Imagine: anyone who owns a 1-kilogram coin would find it hard to "break it down" in an emergency. With a hundred small silver eagles, however, you hold a hundred separate units of value in your hand. This creates a flexibility that larger pieces simply cannot offer.

Comparison: 1/20 oz vs. the Classic 1-Ounce Coin

  1. Exchangeability: Small denominations can be used much more precisely in an emergency.
  2. Collecting pleasure: A hundred gleaming coins offer a visual experience that a single ounce simply cannot create.
  3. Gifting: Each individual coin is a perfect gift – for a christening, a birthday, or just because.

Silver – the Underrated Precious Metal with a Dual Function

Silver isn't just beautiful. It also works. In solar technology, in medicine, in the electronics industry – the white precious metal is needed in ever greater quantities everywhere. This industrial demand meets a limited natural supply. A constellation that makes silver exciting in the long term. What's more: anyone holding physical silver for longer than twelve months can benefit from favorable tax treatment on a private sale – profits are generally tax-free after the one-year holding period has elapsed.

Silver was money long before there were paper currencies – and it will remain money when many a currency is nothing more than a footnote in history.

Who Benefits Most from This Bundle?

  • Crisis preppers who rely on small, exchangeable units
  • Collectors who love the "Birds" series and want to complete the 2026 design
  • Families who want to pass on value across generations
  • Beginners looking to start investing in physical silver with a manageable amount
  • Gift-givers who want to bring shining joy to every relative
