The Silver of the Caribbean: Six Ounces, Four Issuing Countries, One Mint

Turquoise waters, coral reefs, full sails. With this set, you bring the Caribbean island world home in pure precious metal. The US-based Scottsdale Mint from Arizona strikes some of the most popular silver coins of our time for several Caribbean issuing countries. We have put together six of them here: three sea creatures of the Cayman Islands, the trident of Barbados, and two designs from the EC8 series of the Eastern Caribbean. Each silver coin contains one troy ounce, together totaling 186.6 g of fine silver. All pieces are legal tender of their respective issuing country and are delivered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

What's Included in the Set

Cayman Islands Sea Life: Marlin, Stingray, and Turtle

The story begins in 2017. That was when the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), together with the Scottsdale Mint, launched its Blue Marlin program, which quickly became a fixture among silver stackers. In 2024, this evolved into the Cayman Islands Sea Life Series featuring three designs. The 2025 year of issue marks the eighth release in the Cayman series. Unlike the 2024 silver issue in 999 silver, it is struck in high-purity 999.9 fine silver.

The Blue Marlin leaps from the water with its sword extended, a symbol of strength and speed. The Stingray recalls the famous Stingray City, a sandbar off Grand Cayman where visitors encounter the animals in their natural habitat. And the Loggerhead Turtle glides over a coral reef, accompanied by small fish. All three obverse designs are framed by a sculpted rope border, with a medallion featuring a schooner and stars at the top. The reverse displays the coat of arms of the Cayman Islands with the motto "He hath founded it upon the seas," surrounded by a finely guilloched wave pattern.

Barbados Trident: The Broken Trident

Since 2017, the Scottsdale Mint has struck the Trident coins on behalf of the Central Bank of Barbados. Its design is the broken trident from the national flag, a symbol of the island's independence. The 2025 year of issue is already the ninth release. With a mintage of up to one million pieces, the Trident is the classic bullion building block of the set: graphically clear, instantly recognizable, and sought after worldwide.

EC8: Sailing off Anguilla, Paddling off St. Vincent

The EC8 series is dedicated to the islands of the Eastern Caribbean, which share the Eastern Caribbean Dollar as a common currency. The 2024 release already marks the seventh edition. The Anguilla Regatta depicts a sailing yacht with billowing sails against a mountainous tropical backdrop, a tribute to the island's vibrant regatta culture. The mood at St. Vincent & The Grenadines is quite different: a couple stands on paddleboards, framed by palm trees, gazing out at the open sea. Calm instead of competition. Both coins are made of 999 fine silver and carry a face value of 2 Dollars.

Why Silver? A Metal with History and Future

Silver has served as money for millennia. Drachmas, denarii, thalers, pesos: cultures on every continent trusted the white metal long before paper money existed. Unlike fiat currencies, whose value rests solely on trust in governments and central banks, silver possesses an intrinsic, physical value. It does not spoil and retains its properties across generations.

Add to this the demands of industry. Electronics, photovoltaics, and medical technology require silver in large quantities, while supply remains limited. For private investors, silver is also considerably more affordable than gold. Ounce coins in particular can be flexibly bought, sold, or used as a medium of exchange in small units during uncertain times – a proven safeguard against inflation and crises.

Gold and silver have outlived countless paper currencies. Whoever holds physical precious metal holds a value in their hands that depends on no bank and no promise of payment.

A tax advantage: Under German law, profits from the sale of physical silver are tax-free for private individuals if at least one year has passed between purchase and sale. This makes the set an excellent long-term building block for wealth protection, retirement planning, and passing on value to the next generation.

Set or Individual Coins? Pros and Cons

Classic bullion coins such as Maple Leaf or Krugerrand score points with very low premiums but rely on a design that remains unchanged for years. This set deliberately takes a different approach.

  • Advantage of variety: Six designs from four issuing countries, ideal as an entry point into several series at once.
  • Advantage of limited mintage: Five of the six coins are limited to 25,000 pieces each, a plus for collectors.
  • Advantage of liquidity: Each coin contains a full troy ounce of silver and can be resold individually.
  • Good to know: Fineness varies between 999.9 and 999. This does not affect the silver weight of one troy ounce each.

A Piece of the Caribbean for Your Vault

Whether as a gift for ocean lovers, as the foundation of a Caribbean collection, or as a design-rich addition to your precious metals reserve: the Silver of the Caribbean combines the reliability of the troy ounce with the lightness of tropical island designs. Six coins you'll always enjoy holding in your hand.
