Early morning in a forest clearing. The sun breaks through between the conifers, the grass still glistens from the last shower – and right in the middle lies a young deer, looking at you curiously. This exact moment is captured by the 1 oz German Baby Forest Animals Fawn 2026. It combines the warmth of a picture book with the permanence of precious metal, making it one of the most charming issues among our finished silver coins.

✔ Two sides, one story: the design in detail

On one side, you get very close to the fawn. It has curled up in the grass, the typical white spots adorning its reddish-brown coat. Huge dark eyes with long lashes. Pointed ears, with water droplets glistening on them. To the left, the sun shines out from behind a row of conifers, small daisies bloom in the foreground, and along the lower edge, the weight and the year of issue 2026 appear in golden lettering.

The value side, with the inscription "20 DOLLARS", continues the scene: on still slightly wobbly legs, the fawn makes its way through a colourful meadow full of lupins, daisies and pink blossoms. It carefully lowers its nose towards a butterfly resting on a flower in vivid blue and orange. Behind it, forest, mountains and a fine, glistening veil of rain. So not a rigid coat-of-arms image, but a small story in two chapters – that is what makes this silver coin so special.

✔ The finishing – when gold meets colour

Before a single shade of colour is applied, the coin first receives a gold application in Germany. Only after that does the colouring follow, building up the image layer by layer: the warm reddish-brown of the fur, the rich green of the meadow, the sky blue above the edge of the forest. Along the reeded edge of the coin and in the lettering, the gold remains visible, framing the design like an elegant mat border. Even the tiny droplets on the fur and blades of grass are brought out by the colouring with remarkable precision.

The result is a partially gilded and coloured 1 oz silver coin that immediately draws every eye in the display cabinet. It is supplied in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition in a protective coin capsule – where it is perfectly safeguarded.

✔ Why 100 pieces mean so much

A very low mintage is perhaps the most important feature of a sought-after collector's coin. With a mintage of just 100 pieces, animal lovers and coin collectors from all over the world share a tiny number of specimens. It is precisely this limitation that makes the fawn a true rarity. Add to that the endearing design and the elaborate finishing process. Three factors that together establish a pronounced potential for value appreciation – how the collector's value develops is ultimately decided by the market.

A forest child in the morning dew, framed in gold: the Fawn 2026 combines rarity, vibrant colour and a full ounce of fine silver.

✔ In comparison: collector's item or classic bullion coin?

  • Compared to Maple Leaf and Britannia: The well-known bullion coins are minted in the millions, their price closely follows the silver spot price, and the premium is low – ideal for pure metal investment. The fawn, by contrast, bases its value additionally on rarity, design and finishing.
  • Compared to Proof, High Relief or Antique Finish: With these issues, the minting technique is the main focus, whereas with the fawn, it is the overall coloured image. Anyone who loves vivid designs will find what they are looking for here.
  • Compared to larger coloured editions: Many coloured collector issues appear in mintages of several thousand pieces. With only 100 pieces, this edition plays in a completely different league.
  • Care tip: Colour and gold are more delicate than bare metal. Therefore, leave the coin in its capsule – this way its brilliance is permanently preserved.

✔ Silver – the solid foundation beneath colour and gold

As playful as the design appears, its carrier metal is just as enduring. Silver has accompanied humanity for thousands of years as a coinage and monetary metal and was regarded in many cultures as a symbol of prosperity. It is durable, retains its physical properties across generations, and possesses an intrinsic value that does not depend on a government's promise. Industry requires it in electronics, solar and medical technology, while supply remains limited. Many also value the white precious metal as a building block for personal inflation hedge and crisis protection. With this piece, however, the passion for collecting clearly takes centre stage. Good to know: in Germany, profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
