Anyone approaching Ulm sees it first. Long before the old town comes into view, the minster tower already rises above the rooftops – 161.53 meters of civic pride turned into stone. For the people of Ulm, this sight simply means: home. The "Baden-Württemberg by Night – Ulm Minster 2026" edition brings exactly this feeling into your collection. It belongs to the "Cities and Landscapes" series and ranks among the most evocative silver coins in our range. With a mintage of just 100 pieces, it is a true rarity for everyone who carries Baden-Württemberg in their heart.
✔ The Design: Ulm's Landmark Under Starlight
The obverse shows the minster viewed frontally from the minster square. The filigree main tower, with its openwork spire, shoots skyward right in the center, while the portal hall glows in warm gold. Above it stretches a deep blue firmament: in the upper left, the Milky Way streaks across the image in violet and purple, while a radiant full moon stands to the right. On the horizon, a final strip of evening red still burns. On the left, a flag in black and gold – the colors of the state of Baden-Württemberg – flutters in the wind. And in the foreground? The rain-soaked cobblestones of the square, reflecting the lanterns. Along the bottom edge runs the inscription "1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER 2026".
The reverse shifts the perspective. From a bird's-eye view, one looks down upon the nave, the side towers and the main tower, surrounded by a sea of lights from half-timbered houses and gabled roofs. On the left, the Danube winds through the scene beneath an illuminated arched bridge, wisps of fog hovering over the water, while blue hill ranges fade into the evening glow in the distance. On the right edge stands the face value "20 DOLLARS", with the small coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia below.
The real-life model is at least as impressive. On June 30, 1377, the citizens of the Free Imperial City of Ulm laid the foundation stone – financed entirely without the money of any ecclesiastical or secular ruler, purely through their own efforts. The main tower was not completed until 1890. For around 135 years, it was the tallest church tower in the world, and to this day it remains the tallest church tower in Germany and the tallest bell tower in the world. Since the Reformation, the Gothic minster has served as the church of the Protestant minster congregation. On June 30, 2027, Ulm will celebrate 650 years since the laying of the foundation stone – an anniversary that lends this coin additional significance.
✔ Finishing Made in Germany: Night Blue Meets Gold
The starting point is one ounce of fine silver in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. Each coin is then finished in Germany by a specialized partner company exclusively for Kettner Edelmetalle. Two techniques work together here. The richly detailed coloring brings the night to life on both sides in blue, violet, orange and amber. In addition, there is the partial gilding: the reeded edge, the lettering and the year shimmer in rich gold, framing the design like a picture frame. The utmost precision is required to ensure that even the smallest illuminated window and every tracery detail on the tower remains recognizable.
The manufacturer's reference applies to the coin itself, not to the finishing.
✔ Only 100 Pieces: Why the Limitation Matters
Classic bullion coins such as the Maple Leaf or Krugerrand are produced in huge quantities every year. Their strength lies in easy tradability and a price close to the metal value. For collectors, however, they remain interchangeable. Here, the opposite is true. A very low mintage of 100 coins meets the demand of Baden-Württemberg fans, motif collectors, architecture enthusiasts and lovers of refined special editions. Once the edition is sold out, no more will be struck. This strict limitation is the basis for the value appreciation potential that collectors prize in such rarities.
- Rarity: With only 100 pieces worldwide, every single coin becomes a sought-after object
- Appearance: Color and gold accents clearly set the landmark apart from untreated strikes
- Substance: Beneath the finishing lies a full ounce of fine silver as a solid foundation
- Series appeal: Together with the designs from "Bavaria by Night", a stunning collection of southern German landmarks emerges
- Care instructions: Leave the coin in its capsule – this keeps the coloring and gold shine permanently flawless

✔ Silver: The Metal of Coin Collectors
For thousands of years, silver has served as a coinage metal, a medium of trade and a symbol of prosperity. It is durable, does not change its properties over generations, and is therefore wonderfully suited as an heirloom. At the same time, demand from electronics, photovoltaics and medical technology continues to grow, while supply remains limited. Many buyers also see this precious metal as a building block for their inflation hedge and crisis protection. With a rarity like this one, however, the joy of collecting and the element of rarity are clearly in the foreground. There's also a tax advantage: under current German law, profits from the sale of physical silver are tax-free if you have held it for at least one year.
