Curious, playful and a little bit tousled: this wolf pup wins over the hearts of animal lovers in no time. With the German Baby Forest Animals 2026, the offspring of native wildlife take center stage. The little wolf is probably the most charming representative of the series. Among the finished silver coins in our range, it is one of those pieces you don't just own – you keep picking it up again and again.

✔ Two sides, two stories: the design in detail

On the obverse, the pup looks you directly in the eyes. Large, amber-brown eyes, perked-up ears, a coat full of sparkling raindrops – the paws rest on a rain-soaked branch, with fresh fir twigs reaching into the image on the left. Behind it, a dense coniferous forest blurs in front of distant mountain peaks, bathed in warm backlight. Along the bottom edge, the inscription "1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER 2026" runs in gold lettering.

The reverse continues the story. Here, the young wolf trots through a summer meadow full of daisies, clover and lupines, its tail happily raised. Its gaze is fixed on a small ladybird sitting on a leaf. Sunbeams break through the veil of rain, while a mountain lake and wooded slopes glitter in the background. The golden inscription "20 DOLLARS" frames the scene.

Since the turn of the millennium, the wolf has once again been roaming German forests. Hardly any other animal embodies the return of the wilderness so impressively. Depicted as a pup, this symbol of freedom becomes a loving snapshot full of joie de vivre.

✔ Finishing in several steps: gold meets color

The base coin was first fully gilded. Only afterward came the high-quality coloring, which brings the design to life with the finest color gradients. The gold remains visible on the broad, reeded edge and in the lettering – creating the elegant, partially gilded overall impression. Every droplet and every hair was rendered with great precision.

The finishing is carried out by an external specialist company in Germany, exclusively for Kettner Edelmetalle. The manufacturer's designation refers to the coin itself, not to the finishing. The piece is delivered in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition, securely protected in a coin capsule.

✔ Why 100 pieces make all the difference

In the collector's market, one thing matters above all: rarity. With a mintage of just 100 pieces, many interested buyers face an extremely scarce supply. Added to this is the strict limitation combined with a design that captivates well beyond numismatics. Anyone who buys this baby wolf secures a piece that cannot be found in any ordinary collection.

The smaller the mintage, the more personal the coin: whoever owns one of 100 pieces holds a true rarity in their hands.

✔ Comparison: Baby Wolf, Forest Animals series and classic bullion coins

  • Compared to bullion coins: Mass-minted silver coins track closely to the metal price. The Baby Wolf, by contrast, scores with rarity and craftsmanship – its price is noticeably above the pure material value as a result.
  • Compared to the German Forest Animals 2024: That series focuses on fully grown animals such as wolf, fox, bear and owl, while this one focuses on the young. The two series complement each other perfectly.
  • The sibling designs: Fawn, fox, squirrel and wild boar also appear in editions of 100 pieces each – ideal for anyone wanting to complete the series.
  • Care: A colored surface requires more care than bare precious metal. It is therefore best to leave the coin in its capsule.

✔ Silver: a collector's metal with a long tradition

For centuries, silver served as a coinage and monetary metal, and many cultures saw it as a sign of prosperity and prestige. It is durable, retains its physical properties, and is traded worldwide as a commodity. At the same time, industrial demand is growing, for example in electronics, solar and medical technology, while supply remains limited. Many investors also value the metal as an inflation hedge and crisis protection – however, with this coin, the joy of collecting is clearly at the forefront. Good to know: under current German law, profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
