Baby Squirrel 2026: Partially Gilded Rarity from the German Baby Forest Animals Series

  • Strictly limited: A tiny edition with only 100 pieces worldwide – a piece for truly few collectors
  • Growth opportunities: Very high potential for value appreciation thanks to the scarce mintage and brisk demand among motif collectors
  • Rarity: An exceptionally rare collector's coin that is rarely encountered in trade
  • Exclusive: This little work of art is available exclusively from Kettner Edelmetalle – nowhere else
  • High-quality finishing: Several technical processes, from gilding to vivid colorization, make every coin part of a mini edition made especially for you
  • Design: A fluffy baby squirrel whose reddish-brown fur, dotted with dewdrops, practically glows in the backlight – colored on both sides of the coin
  • Investment goal: A sparsely issued collector's item that, due to its strict limitation, carries high potential for value appreciation
  • Material / Fineness: A full ounce of silver with a fine weight of 31.1 g and a purity of 999.9/1,000
  • Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle – additionally finished afterwards in Germany

Small forest dwellers, big impact. With the 1 oz Silver German Baby Forest Animals Squirrel 2026, you bring a piece of native nature into your collection that will hardly be found in any other display case. One hundred pieces. That's all there is. Anyone who loves unusual silver coins with animal motifs will hardly be able to resist this mischievous little forest sprite.

✔ A Baby Squirrel in the Morning Dew

Even the obverse side draws the eye magically. The young animal comes right up close to the viewer: large, shiny dark button eyes, the typical tufted ears, delicate paws resting on a moss-covered tree stump. Countless water droplets hang in its fur and whiskers, sparkling like tiny crystals. Behind it, mist-shrouded hills with dense fir forests rise in layers, bathed in warm, golden light. Along the edge, in golden letters, are the inscriptions "1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER" and the year of issue 2026.

The reverse side continues the story. Here, the little squirrel scampers through a rain-soaked summer meadow full of lupins, daisies, and clover – heading straight for an acorn temptingly resting on a leaf. Its bushy tail stands straight up, sunbeams break through the rain, and forests and mountains rise in the background. Along the edge, the face value "20 DOLLARS" is prominently displayed. Two scenes, one character: the design feels like a little picture book you want to open again and again.

✔ Gilded, Colorized, and Finished in Germany

The base is a silver coin by Kettner Edelmetalle, issued for the Republic of Liberia in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. However, it only gains its distinctive look afterwards: a specialized finishing workshop in Germany first coats the entire surface of the coin with a layer of gold, exclusively for us. This is followed by high-quality colorization, which makes the design shine in vivid colors. The gilding remains visible on the reeded edge and in the lettering – which is why the coin is described as partially gilded. Every step requires the utmost precision, as the color and gold must align cleanly down to the finest details.

Important to know: the manufacturer's designation refers to the coin itself, not to the finishing.

A forest child, two sides, 100 pieces – and a design that makes collectors' hearts beat faster.

✔ Why 100 Pieces Make All the Difference

With a mintage of only 100 pieces, this coin plays in a league of its own. Such a very low mintage is rare even among finished special editions – the issue is strictly limited. It is precisely this limitation that makes the Baby Squirrel a true rarity: once the allocation is sold out, interested buyers will at most find the coin on the collector's market. Combined with the emotional design, this results in remarkable potential for value appreciation.

A brief comparison helps put this into perspective:

  • Compared to classic bullion coins such as the Maple Leaf or the Vienna Philharmonic: these are produced in the millions, and their value is primarily tied to the silver price. The Baby Squirrel, on the other hand, scores points with its rarity, finishing, and appealing design.
  • Compared to its golden sister: The Baby Squirrel is also available as a 1/200 oz gold Proof coin with 500 pieces and a diameter of 14 mm. The silver ounce offers a much larger surface area for the colorful design – at a fifth of the mintage.
  • Good to know: As a collector's item, the price exceeds the pure metal value. The colorized surface is also delicate, so the included coin capsule should ideally remain closed – this way, the vivid colors are preserved permanently.

✔ Silver – The Collector's Metal with History

For thousands of years, this white precious metal has been minted into coins, from the ancient drachma to the thaler. It is durable, retains its physical properties across generations, and possesses an intrinsic value that is recognized worldwide. Industry needs it in electronics, solar technology, and medicine, while supply remains limited. Some also value silver as a building block for inflation hedging and crisis protection – however, with this coin, the joy of collecting is clearly front and center. A pleasant side effect: profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free in Germany if at least one year lies between purchase and sale.
