Hardly any Disney character is as closely associated with gold and money as Scrooge McDuck. To mark his 75th anniversary, this coloured coin from 2022 shows him with his money bag and a treasure chest, struck from three ounces of silver. For collectors who like to own Disney characters in a large format, it is a real showpiece.

Scrooge McDuck and his treasure

The design shows the drake in his familiar outfit: red coat and black top hat. In his hand he holds a green money bag, and an open chest is full of gold coins and pieces of jewellery. The colours are vivid and clearly recognisable, while the rim and background gleam in silver. The result is a richly detailed picture that speaks entirely of Scrooge's wealth.

Donald Duck's thrifty uncle

In Disney's stories, Scrooge is Donald Duck's uncle and famous for his great thrift. He avoids unnecessary spending wherever he possibly can. He prefers to increase his fortune on adventures and treasure hunts, which many stories tell of. It is precisely this mix of thrift and love of adventure that makes him so entertaining for readers of all ages. That he of all characters should appear on a precious metal coin is therefore especially fitting.

Three ounces on 60 millimetres

With 93.31 g of fine silver (999/1,000) and a diameter of 60 mm, this issue weighs as much as three one-ounce coins combined. On the large surface, the top hat, the gold coins and the jewellery in the chest are shown to good effect. Niue issued the coin with a face value of 10 dollars. As a mark of authenticity, a certificate accompanies this issue.

A limited anniversary edition for collectors

The limitation of the mintage makes this collector's coin a special find for Disney fans. Among large silver coins featuring characters from comics and animated films, it stands out for its format and its colours. For centuries, silver was used in many cultures as a medium of trade, much like gold, and it is a finite resource. Those who, like Scrooge, value permanence also appreciate the metal with a view to an inflation hedge and crisis protection. For collectors, however, the character still comes first with this coin.
