Libertad means “freedom” in Spanish, and the name suits a coin that places a piece of independence in your hands. The 1 oz Gold Mexico Libertad combines a full ounce of fine gold with one of the most expressive designs among gold coins. If you would like to diversify your holdings beyond the well-known classics, you will find in it a bullion coin with a character all of its own.
The goddess of victory before Mexico's volcanoes
The design of the Gold Libertad shows a winged Victory standing on a pedestal. Her wings are spread wide, and she holds a laurel wreath raised high. Behind her stretches a landscape of mountains from which two volcanoes rise. The figure is said to be modelled on the Angel of Independence, a well-known monument in Mexico City.
The image is completed by the inscription “1 ONZA ORO PURO”, meaning “1 ounce of pure gold”. On the other side, the coin bears the national coat of arms of Mexico with an eagle and a serpent.
Struck by Mexico's state mint
The Libertad is produced by the Casa de Moneda, Mexico's state mint. It is one of the oldest mints on the American continent and has been striking coins for centuries. This experience shows in the carefully crafted, richly detailed strike. The coin bears no face value; its gold content speaks for itself.
Fine gold in bank quality
The Libertad contains 31.1 g of gold with a fineness of 999/1,000, in other words one troy ounce. With a diameter of 34.5 mm, it is a coin of impressive size. No particular year of issue is specified, and the condition is bank quality. As investment gold, the Libertad is VAT-free.
Why gold preserves your purchasing power
New paper money can be created with just a few decisions, whereas new gold can only be extracted with great effort and in limited quantities. Gold has an intrinsic value that does not depend on trust in a government, and it has served as a store of value for thousands of years. That is why it is regarded as a proven inflation hedge, especially when confidence in paper money wavers.
One ounce for politically turbulent times
Gold is recognised and traded worldwide. This quality makes a coin like the Libertad a solid building block for your crisis protection, because it retains its value even when political or economic crises shake confidence in currencies. For private investors in Germany, there is a further point: if you hold gold for longer than one year, you can realise gains from a later sale tax-free.
