Psalm 91:11

“In all thy ways”: the Guardian Angel 2027 Reverse Proof and Psalm 91:11.

“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways”, reads Psalm 91:11. Matthew 18:10 is regarded as the classic biblical reference for the belief in guardian angels, and in the Book of Tobit the archangel Raphael accompanies Tobias on his journey. Since 1670 the Catholic Church has celebrated the Feast of the Guardian Angels on 2 October. From the late 19th century, guardian angel pictures grew ever more popular as wall decorations.

Some coins are simply looked at. Others make you pause. The Guardian Angel 2027 clearly belongs to the second category. With a mintage of only 500 pieces, this collector's coin made of pure silver is far more than just a piece of precious metal. It is a quiet, deeply moving work of art and, for connoisseurs, a true rarity that cannot simply be purchased again later.

Two sides, one prayer: the design in detail

The obverse shows a kneeling angel in perfect devotion. The head is slightly tilted, the eyes lowered, the hands folded in front of the chest. Long, wavy hair falls over the shoulders, crowned with a delicate wreath of flowers. The mighty wings, rising across the entire left half of the coin, are particularly impressive. Every single feather is sculpted in relief. The flowing robe features finely chased ornamental borders on the collar, sleeves and belt. Along the right edge runs the inscription "1 OZ FINE SILVER 9999".

The reverse takes up the theme and condenses it: two hands folded in prayer, encircled by a rosary with a delicate cross. The wide sleeves are adorned with floral ornaments. Anyone who sees this image will inevitably think of Albrecht Dürer's famous "Praying Hands" from 1508, an icon of art history, reinterpreted here in silver. The design is completed by the national coat of arms with the inscription "Republic of Liberia", the face value "20 Dollars" and the year of issue 2027.

Folded hands are one of the oldest gestures of hope. On this coin, they become a companion you can hold in your hand at any time.

Reverse Proof meets High Relief

The Reverse Proof finish reverses the principle of the classic Proof quality. Instead of mirrored fields and matte motifs, this coin features a finely frosted background while the relief areas are polished to a high shine. The result? The angel, wings and praying hands appear to glow out of the silver. This effect is intensified by the High Relief: the design is struck noticeably more raised than in ordinary issues, so that locks of hair, folds of fabric and feathers create a vivid play of light and shadow. The reeded edge and the diameter of 40.00 mm round off the high-quality appearance. The coin is supplied in an elegant case, ideal for display and safe storage.

In comparison: why this issue stands out

The Guardian Angel has become a true favourite within the "Symbolism" series by Kettner Edelmetalle. The 1 oz 2026 issue in Proof quality was released with a mintage of 5,000 pieces. The 2027 Reverse Proof version, with its very low mintage, is ten times scarcer – a difference that collectors immediately appreciate. In the segment of silver coins, the rule generally applies: the smaller the mintage and the more elaborate the minting, the more sought-after a design often becomes on the collector's market.

Of course, it's also worth considering the alternatives. Classic bullion coins such as the Maple Leaf or the Krugerrand score points with a price close to the pure metal value and are suitable for anyone who sees silver primarily as an inflation hedge or as crisis protection. The Guardian Angel 2027 pursues a different goal: its appeal lies in the art of minting, its symbolic power and the strict limitation. For this reason, its price exceeds the material value, a premium that is simply part of the character of such a rare issue. Once the mintage is sold out, only the secondary market remains.

Silver – the collector's metal with history

Silver has been minted into coins for thousands of years. In many cultures it was regarded as a symbol of wealth and prestige and remains, to this day, a classic material in the art of medal-making. The white precious metal is durable, retains its physical properties across generations, and is excellently suited for passing on value to children and grandchildren. At the same time, it is in strong demand in electronics, solar technology and medical technology – a raw material with genuine intrinsic value. Good news for collectors in Germany: under current law, profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free if at least one year has passed between purchase and sale.
