Christmas in pure fine gold: With the bar "The Nativity", the Swiss precious metals manufacturer PAMP brings the birth of Christ to 5 grams of gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000. Anyone looking for a stylish inflation hedge while also wanting to own a piece with genuine meaning will find both here. The mintage of just 10,000 pieces also makes the bar a sought-after object for collectors.
The Design: Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus
The obverse shows a calm, finely crafted relief of the Holy Family. Mary gently holds the newborn in her arms, Joseph leans protectively over mother and child with his hand on his chest. The drapery of the fabric, the facial features, the play of light and shadow – everything appears remarkably lifelike on this small surface.
The reverse follows the classic PAMP design, lovingly staged: two trumpeting angels and a radiant star above a Gothic arch, framed by delicate branches. Below are the inscriptions "SUISSE", "5g", "FINE GOLD" and "999.9", along with the mint mark "Essayeur Fondeur" with the PAMP logo and the individual serial number.

PAMP: Swiss Precision Since 1977
PAMP – short for "Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux" – was founded in Ticino in 1977 and is today one of the most renowned refineries in the world. The brand became world-famous with the Fortuna design, which has adorned countless gold bars since 1979. What distinguishes the company is the combination of aesthetics and precision: every bar is a small work of art, but also an internationally recognised piece of fine gold that dealers around the world know and value.
Why Gold? The World's Oldest Currency
For more than 6,000 years, people have trusted in gold. Even in ancient Egypt it served as a unit of measure in trade; kings and emperors wore it as a sign of their power, and merchants on the Silk Road used it for payment. Well into the 20th century, currencies were directly tied to the yellow metal through the gold standard. Paper money has come and gone. Gold has remained.
The reason is simple: gold has intrinsic value and has never been worth zero. It is scarce, cannot be multiplied at will, and never loses its shine – not even after centuries. Fiat money, on the other hand, is printed by central banks. Of all institutions, these very central banks are today among the largest gold holders in the world – a clear signal of how much they themselves rely on the precious metal rather than on their own paper money. It is not without reason that gold is regarded as "God's money" and as the elder brother of silver.
Gold protects against loss of purchasing power, is recognised worldwide and is liquid at all times – a hedge against inflation and currency risks that outlasts generations.
Design Bars, Standard Bars or Gold Coins?
Compared to a standard bar such as the well-known PAMP Fortuna, the premium for the design and limited edition is somewhat higher. In return, you receive a piece that is far more than pure investment metal: the very low mintage and the timeless design appeal to collectors and investors alike. Compared to 1-gram bars, the premium per gram is lower, and at 5 grams the bar remains small enough to serve as a convenient means of exchange in a crisis.
And compared to classic gold coins? Coins carry a face value and are legal tender. The Nativity bar, on the other hand, has no face value. It relies entirely on what counts: certified fine gold, Swiss origin and a strictly limited mintage that sets it apart from the crowd.
Tax Advantages and Wealth for Generations
As investment gold, the bar is exempt from VAT in Germany. Profits from a later sale remain tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. This makes it ideally suited for long-term retirement provision or as an asset to pass on to children and grandchildren – perhaps exactly on Christmas Eve.
