Half a gram. Sounds modest? Then it's worth looking back: this coin contains more fine gold than an entire Mark of the German Empire once embodied. From 1871 onward, one Mark was legally equivalent to around 0.358 grams of fine gold. The Goldmark 2026 picks up on this idea and turns it into a modern bullion coin. It is therefore not merely a collector's item. Unlike a classic collector's coin, whose price is primarily determined by rarity, here the fine gold content is the substance and the actual reason to buy.

When money was still tied to gold

With the Imperial gold standard, the young German Empire tied its Mark directly to the yellow metal. One kilogram of fine gold was minted into 2,790 Marks, and banknotes could be exchanged for gold. The gold standard shaped large parts of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It stood for a currency that could be trusted. This connection between money and real precious metal is still embedded today in the name "Goldmark".

The design: One, oak leaves and eagle

Anyone who once held the D-Mark in their hand will recognize the image immediately. The large "1" between two oak branches recalls the familiar 1-DM coin that was in circulation from 1950 onward. Below it, in classic serif lettering, are the words "GOLD MARK" and the year 2026. A fine beaded circle frames the image. The oak leaves are detailed down to the leaf veins, and the acorns appear almost three-dimensional.

The value side belongs to the eagle. Its head looks to the right in profile, every feather is individually drawn, and the eye appears alert and focused. Two oak branches enclose the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia with the inscription "Republic of Liberia". Above is the inscription "0.5g 9999 FINE GOLD", below the face value "25 DOLLARS". In Proof quality, the contrast is especially striking, as the matte relief stands out clearly against the mirrored background.

The coin is delivered well protected in a coincard, which takes up little space in a safe deposit box or vault. The front shows the lettering "1 Gold Mark" on a black background with golden oak leaves. On the back sits a golden eagle on an oak branch, below which reads "Valuable. Timeless. Unforgettable." The design gives the coin its personal touch, while the fine gold constitutes its value.

Genuine investment gold: Build wealth in small steps

Even though the minting process is elaborate, what you are acquiring here is full-fledged investment gold: minted fine gold whose value tracks the development of the gold price. The small denomination in particular makes getting started easy. Whether as a complement to existing silver coins or as a first step into precious metals: gold is the big brother of silver.

  • Value retention with substance: Gold has intrinsic value and, throughout its long history, has never become worthless.
  • Wealth building in stages: Small amounts of gold add up over the years into a considerable holding.
  • Tradable worldwide: Fine gold with 999.9 purity is recognized on the international market and can be sold again at any time.
  • Tax-attractive: No VAT is charged on purchase. Profits from a sale are generally tax-free after a minimum holding period of one year.
  • Exclusive due to limitation: Because of the very low mintage of 500 pieces, every coin from this edition is something special.
Gold is the oldest currency in the world. It has served as a store of value for over 6,000 years. It has shone for millennia and will continue to do so in the future.

Even in ancient Egypt, gold served as a benchmark in trade. Today, central banks hold the largest gold reserves in the world. Unlike paper money, gold cannot be multiplied at will; its supply is limited. Many investors therefore rely on physical precious metal for their inflation hedge and their crisis protection. With this coin, one thing counts above all: half a gram of pure gold that you hold in your hand.

Goldmark, bar or ounce: What suits you?

A 1-gram gold bar contains slightly more material but is plainly designed. Larger gold coins, such as a full troy ounce of gold, tie up a significantly higher amount in one go. The Goldmark 2026 sits in between: small unit, highest purity, Proof minting quality. Admittedly, the elaborate mirror-finish minting costs somewhat more per gram than a simple bar. In return, you receive a precisely crafted coin in protective packaging, with which you can build up your gold holdings step by step. For comparison: a historical 20-Mark coin of the German Empire contained around 7.17 g of fine gold. Fourteen pieces of this Goldmark already amount to 7 g.

Give the gift of genuine gold investment

For a christening, birthday, wedding or Christmas: give genuine investment gold instead of a present that is quickly forgotten. In doing so, you give a real asset that can be expanded piece by piece over the years. From half a gram, the beginning of a gold reserve can grow — one that is passed down through generations.

Kettner Edelmetalle is one of Germany's largest precious metals dealers and stands as the manufacturer behind this in-house mintage. Since the number of pieces is strictly limited to just 500 pieces, this edition may sell out quickly. Secure your Goldmark 2026 in Proof quality now — fine gold with history that retains its value.
