Three Goats, One Wish for Luck – 50 Grams of Swiss Precision

  • Investment goal: With this gold bar, you take effective action against the gradual erosion of currency value – reliable inflation hedge and compact crisis protection in a single piece.
  • Value preservation: Physical gold is a proven store of value that preserves the real purchasing power of your wealth.
  • Protection: Inflation, recession, runaway national debt – this is exactly when tangible precious metal shows its strength.
  • Design: Three goats on mountain peaks, traditional Chinese lucky coins, clouds, and the New Year's wish 三羊开泰.
  • Material / fineness: 50 g fine gold at 999.9/1,000 – the highest commercially available purity.
  • Manufacturer: Argor-Heraeus, renowned refinery from Mendrisio in Ticino.
  • Country of origin: Switzerland, Swiss Made.

Some bars are bought for the metal alone. This one combines both: 50 grams of fine gold as a solid foundation for your wealth protection – and a design that is a joy to behold time and again. With this minted bar, Argor-Heraeus celebrates the Chinese New Year 2027, which begins on February 6 and ushers in the Year of the Goat. The mintage is strictly limited: only 18,888 pieces are produced worldwide per weight class.

The Design: 三羊开泰 – Three Goats Bring Prosperity

On the design side, a stately goat with powerfully curved horns sits enthroned on a rocky peak. Below, to the left and right, stand two smaller companions, each on their own rock. From their mouths hang strings of traditional Chinese cash coins, while stylized lucky clouds drift through the background. The scene is framed by a classic Chinese meander ornament.

Vertically arranged are four characters: 三羊开泰, pronounced "sān yáng kāi tài". The New Year's wish roughly means "Three goats announce prosperity". Behind it lies a beautiful play on words: the word for goat (羊, yáng) sounds like Yang, the bright, active principle. The phrase stands for the return of spring, for new beginnings and success. This is why the bar depicts exactly three animals.

The goat is the eighth of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac. It embodies gentleness, harmony, creativity, and perseverance; according to the Chinese calendar, 2027 is the year of the Fire Goat. For anyone born in 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, or 2015, this bar becomes a very personal gift with deep symbolism.

The reverse shows the typical Argor-Heraeus imagery: the round "Argor Heraeus SA" logo, below it "Switzerland", "50g Fine Gold 999.9", the "Melter Assayer" stamp, and an individual serial number in the format 00000/18888. The bar is presented in a red blister pack with golden fireworks – red being the color of luck in China. The certificate card states the weight and fineness, bears the signature of the certified assayer, and on the back carries the note "Limited Edition – Year of the Goat – 2027".

Why Exactly 18,888 Pieces?

No coincidence. In China, the number eight is considered the ultimate lucky number because it sounds like the word for "prosperity". With no fewer than four eights in the mintage figure, a Lunar bar could hardly be more symbolic.

Tangible Inflation Hedge: Why Gold Preserves Your Purchasing Power

Paper money can be multiplied at will. Central banks print it, governments take on debt in it – and with every new expansion of the money supply, the purchasing power of savings declines. Gold works differently. Its supply is naturally limited; no central bank in the world can create an additional ounce. It is precisely this scarcity that has made the yellow metal a stable store of value for over 6,000 years.

As far back as ancient Egypt, gold served as a unit of measure in trade. Through the Silk Road, the discovery of new continents, and the gold standard system of the 19th and 20th centuries, it remained the anchor of monetary systems. Currencies have come and gone. Gold has remained – the world's oldest currency has outlasted them all and, thanks to its intrinsic value, has never been worth zero.

"Gold is God's money." – a phrase that aptly describes the timeless role of this precious metal as a store of value.

Remarkably, the world's largest gold holders are the central banks themselves. They hold gold as a reserve to support the stability of the financial system – a clear signal of just how much trust the metal commands when fiat money loses credibility.

Your Advantages at a Glance

  • VAT-free: As investment gold with 999.9 fineness, the bar is exempt from VAT.
  • Tax-free gains: After a holding period of at least one year, capital gains for private individuals are generally tax-free.
  • High liquidity: Gold is recognized worldwide, tradable at any time, and quickly convertible into cash.
  • Crisis-resistant: A safeguard during political and economic turbulence as well as against currency risks.
  • Durable: Fine gold does not corrode and is ideally suited for passing on wealth to the next generation.

Lunar Bar, Lunar Coin, or Standard Bar?

Anyone wishing to celebrate the Year of the Goat in precious metal has a choice in 2027. The popular Gold Lunar coins from the Perth Mint's Lunar Series III in Australia are legal tender and are minted in ounce denominations. The Argor-Heraeus bar, on the other hand, draws on Swiss refining tradition and packs noticeably more gold – around 1.6 troy ounces – into a single piece. The rectangular shape measuring 49.7 x 28.5 x 2.0 mm also provides a generous surface area for the relief design.

And the standard bar? A plain 50 g bar without a design usually offers the lowest premium per gram. The Lunar bar contains exactly the same amount of fine gold, but additionally scores points with its limited mintage, annually changing zodiac design, and genuine collector appeal. For pure gram hunters, the standard bar is the sober choice – but anyone wishing to combine value preservation with symbolism and gift appeal should reach for the goat.

Argor-Heraeus: Swiss Fine Gold Since 1951

The refinery from Mendrisio in Ticino is among the world's leading precious metals processors. Since the system was introduced in 2003, Argor-Heraeus has been one of only seven LBMA referees, overseeing the quality standards of the entire industry. The Lunar bar is certified by a sworn assayer, securely packaged in a blister, and delivered in Mint State quality. Our tip: leave the blister sealed – it protects the surface and makes future resale easier.

Whether as the foundation of your financial provisions, a building block of a Lunar collection, or a gift for Chinese New Year: the 50g Gold Bar Argor-Heraeus Year of the Goat 2027 combines 50 grams of lasting value with a message of luck that has inspired hope for better times for centuries.
