The constellation in the sky

SUHUR-MASH-HA, the goat-fish.

That is what the Sumerians called the constellation. In Capricornus lies the globular cluster M30, visible with binoculars, best in October.

Details of the coin’s product image

The path of the sun

Twelve sections of a year.

Capricorn is the tenth of the twelve sections.

Seen from the Earth, the sun travels once around the sky against the stars over the course of a year, along the ecliptic.

The signs divide this path into twelve equal sections of 30 degrees each, counted from the vernal equinox point, the position of the sun at the start of spring. The constellations of the same names differ in size.

Because the Earth’s axis slowly turns like a spinning top, once in about 26,000 years, the vernal equinox point has moved by about 30 degrees since the Greek Hipparchus. Signs and constellations are therefore offset today by about one constellation.

In cuneiform, in books, on clocks.

  1. BabylonThe cuneiform series MUL.APIN, preserved in copies from the 7th century BC onwards, names 17 constellations along the ecliptic.
  2. PtolemyAround AD 150, Ptolemy gathered more than a thousand stars into 48 constellations in the Almagest. At its core, our system today is his.
  3. Très Riches HeuresIn the book of hours of the Duke of Berry, now in Chantilly, each month’s picture shows the two zodiac signs of the month at the top.

Capricorn 2027: Half a Gram of Fine Gold, Strictly Limited to 1,000 Pieces

  • Strictly limited: Only 1,000 pieces are being minted worldwide – a very low mintage for a coin struck from pure fine gold.
  • Growth potential: Alongside the development of the gold price, the tight limitation may open up additional value appreciation potential.
  • Rarity with substance: More than a classic collector's coin – you are acquiring full-fledged, minted investment gold.
  • Material & fineness: 0.5 g of pure gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000 – the "four nines" level, meaning 99.99% precious metal.
  • Minting quality: The highest possible finish, Proof (PP), with mirrored fields and razor-sharp details.
  • Design: A powerful Capricorn portrait with widely sweeping, finely ridged horns set against a starry sky, framed by the circle of the zodiac signs.
  • Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle – an in-house mintage produced by us.
  • Country of origin: Minted in Germany, officially issued by the Republic of Liberia with a face value of 25 dollars.
  • Investment character: The value is based on the fine gold content, tracks the gold price, and remains tradable worldwide.

The 0.5g Gold Zodiac Capricorn 2027 combines two things that rarely come together: a truly small mintage and a noticeable fine gold content. Half a gram of pure precious metal, struck in Proof quality, securely packaged in a coincard. Within our gold coins, this issue belongs to the Zodiac series, which dedicates its own gold coin to each of the twelve zodiac signs. Capricorn is the tenth sign in the sun's annual cycle – even the Sumerians knew its constellation as the "Goat-Fish." It is considered the sign of those who think long-term.

Two Sides, One Theme: The Starry Sky

Obverse – the Capricorn portrait

The obverse shows the head of a Capricorn, turned slightly to the side, with an alert gaze and long, flowing fur. Its horns curve in a mighty spiral all the way to the inner ring, with each individual ridge intricately worked out. Small stars sparkle in the background. Above is the inscription "CAPRICORN", below it a small medallion with the astrological symbol of the sign. A narrow ring bearing the symbols of all twelve zodiac signs runs around the design, and at the bottom the inscription "0.5 g 9999 FINE GOLD" states the weight and fineness. In the Proof finish, the mirrored fields appear deep dark depending on the light, while the relief glows in a warm golden tone.

Reverse – the sun within the circle of twelve

At the center of the reverse sits a stylized sun with a halo of rays and compass points, with the coat of arms of Liberia at its center. Around it lies a zodiac circle of twelve fields, each bearing a zodiac symbol from Aries to Pisces. The inscriptions "25 DOLLARS 2027" and "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA" identify the gold coin as official legal tender.

The coincard picks up on the theme: on the front, Capricorn is depicted with the date range December 22 – January 19 and the traits "disciplined · ambitious · determined," while the back shows the zodiac wheel with the phrase "Twelve signs – endless stories." The design is the personal touch. The substance, however, is the fine gold.

Why Only 1,000 Pieces Make the Difference

A look at the series reveals it: last year's issue, the 1/200 oz Gold Zodiac Capricorn 2026, contains around 0.16 g of fine gold and was issued with a mintage of 5,000 pieces. The 2027 issue offers a good three times the fine gold content – with a mintage of only 1,000 pieces. Fewer pieces, more gold per coin. This combination makes the Capricorn 2027 a true rarity within the series. There will never be more than 1,000 pieces of this coin; the supply remains permanently limited.

Investment Gold in Small Format – with Full Weight

Despite the personal zodiac design, what you are acquiring here is full-fledged investment gold: minted fine gold whose value tracks the gold price. This is precisely where the strength of small denominations lies.

  • Building wealth in small steps: Anyone who regularly adds half a gram builds up a considerable gold holding over the years.
  • Flexible resale: Small units can be sold individually as needed – you never have to move your entire holding.
  • High liquidity: Gold is recognized worldwide and can be converted into cash at any time.
  • Tax-attractive: Profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
  • Across generations: Gold permanently retains its physical properties and can easily be passed on to the next generation.

Of course, the following also applies: with very small denominations, the premium per gram is higher than with large gold bars. Anyone looking exclusively for the lowest price per gram should opt for large units. However, anyone wanting to see fineness of 999.9, an official face value, the highest minting quality, and a strict limitation combined in a single product will not find this in a plain 0.5g gold bar. This is exactly where the coin plays to its strengths.

The Oldest Currency of Mankind

Gold has served as a store of value for over 6,000 years. Even in ancient Egypt it was used as a unit of measure in trade; later, kings and emperors wore it as a sign of their power, and it traveled across continents along the Silk Road. In the 19th and 20th centuries, paper money under the gold standard was directly tied to the yellow metal. Currencies have come and gone – gold has remained. It has never had a value of zero, because it possesses intrinsic value and cannot be multiplied at will. Tellingly, it is precisely the central banks around the world that count among the largest holders of gold. Whether as a building block for preserving value, inflation hedge, or crisis protection: the precious metal has enjoyed unbroken trust for thousands of years.

Give the Gift of a True Gold Investment

Those born under Capricorn celebrate their birthday between December 22 and January 19 – right in the middle of the Christmas season and around the turn of the year. Give real investment gold instead of a fleeting present on this occasion, for a christening, or for a milestone birthday. Small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable fortune.
